Craig Torrance & Philip Hochstrate are Four:Twenty's freshest new signing. Their first co-production spawns a deep tech house record that doesn’t come any more emotive or sultry. ‘Shrinkage’ was inspired by lost afternoons raving as the sunset to inspirational DJs at DC10. Shrinkage is precision cut to suit the deep, emotive sun kissed vibes of an evening on an Ibizan terrace as the melodies build into an lush, epic crescendo.

‘Shrinkage’ has been given a rework by Samim, one of the underground’s hottest remixers right now, who takes the track off-road with a tense, quirky retake on the original. The haunting riffs of the original holster a rocking funk-fuelled groove that peaks with a mind-blowing breakdown before drowning the dancefloor in a bath of sub-bass.

DJ MAGAZINE ¬ Shrinkage (Four Twenty) 4.5* Shrinkage in its original form is a nice deep , reduced track with some real charm. A gentle fluttering shuffley groove skips along with nice melodic flourishes and some deft chords and dramatic sweeping pads. Definitely a track as much for the head this will be in my box for some time. The on form Samim¹s mix takes the track on a bass heavy trip. Nice to see Samim not sticking to one sound this is solid but this lacks the special something of some of his other recent work.

MIXMAG ‘Shrinkage’ (Four:Twenty Recordings) 4/5 We don’t normally review tracks by Mixmag’s own but when a second release shows this much promise it would be criminal to overlook it. Glaswegian Craig Torrance teams up with classically trained Berliner Philip Hochstrate to create this melodic weapon, supported by a strong Samim remix, that sounds like Guy Gerber at his best.
