Following on from Mowbray & Sullivan's essential 'Tropical Heights' release, Bristol-based Four:Twenty return with a label debut from Giles Smith and Martin Dawson's Two Armadillos project.
A recent EP for Steve Bug's Dessous set the stall out for their intricate placing of techno influences on a deep house template, and the 'Butterfly Bee' EP only serves to further refine the formula.
The title track sees a rolling 4/4 beat providing the base for a simple stab pattern to gradually filter into the mix, before giving way to loose double-bass and sumptuous chords.
Meanwhile, the remix is supplied by Andomat 3000 and Jan, who recently released the rather superb 'L Delay' on Chilean supremo Luciano's Cadenza imprint. They condense the original progression into a tight, leisurely groove, with percussion and FX constantly snaking in and out of the mix - the perfect foil to the original mix.
With recent releases seeing heavy rotation from just about everyone in house and techno, Four:Twenty seems the perfect home for Two Armadillos, who also have a follow-up 12" pencilled in for Dessous, as well as material planned for Giles' new label, Secretsundaze Music

IDJ Top Tune - Tech House Page
"Made to a classic tech house formula, ‘Butterfly Bee’ has got it all. The drums are deep and rugged, the gentle synths add mood and soul and there’s as much for house heads as there is for Detroit ones. Just as effective in a similar manner is the silky smooth Andomat 3000 & Jan Remix and to round it off the sumptuously funky ‘Track 5’. Secretsundaze might not be secret for much longer if its resident keeps this up. " *****
